Mark E. Ungerman, Principal

Mark Ungerman is the founder and principal of Ungerman IP PLLC, a dedicated intellectual property firm.

Mark's practice focuses on patent litigation before the U.S. district courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Mark counsels on intellectual property matters involving electrical, electronic, telecommunications, and computer technologies.  His practice includes developing and implementing strategies to protect capital investments through the perfection, litigation and licensing of patents.

Mark's practice includes both offensive and defensive engagements, and he has experience in all aspects of litigation ad settlement of patents, including strategy and design-around. Mark's practice also includes intellectual property transactions such as patent, copyright, trademark and software licensing, intellectual property due diligence for corporate mergers and acquisitions, e-commerce deals and partner arrangements, domain name transactions, joint venture and trade secret agreements, and other related transactions.

Mark also has experience in all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution with particular emphasis on electrical, electronic, and computer-implemented inventions including communications systems; software-implemented inventions; microprocessor-based systems; and other electrical and mechanical systems and design.

Prior to starting Ungerman IP, Mark worked for over 25 years in the IP litigation practices of the international law firms Morrison & Foerster LLP and Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P.

Mark is admitted to practice in California and the District of Columbia.  He is also registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mark is an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association where he is a former chair of the Inventor Issues Committee.  Mark currently serves on the ITC, Licensing and Management of Intellectual Property Assets, and Membership Committees, and is a Member of the Patent and Trademark Office Society.

Mark earned his J.D. from George Washington University in 1987, and his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York in 1981.

Prior to attending law school, Mark was a member of the technical staff at Hughes Aircraft Corporation.  Mark also served as a Patent Examiner at the USPTO while attending law school.
